Meet Our Doctors

All the doctors at SAMC are trained and Board Certified in Family Medicine. Our specialty is directed to diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical problems, focusing on holistic prevention, and the integration that family and community play in our health and in our illnesses.

Eric W. Weidmann, MD

Dr. Weidmann will retire effective 8/31/23.  You may read the official announcement here:

Dr. Weidmann graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, College of Engineering and then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1985. He joined SAMC in 1989 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. He is recognized as a “hands on leader” in the application of technology and data systems to patient care and medical practice. His community and personal life orbits around his fabulous wife and two incredible daughters. He has participated in numerous sports but currently has a particular fondness for cycling and swimming.

Ian S. Alward, MD

Dr. Alward graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. in 1999. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and joined SAMC in 2006. He is also a member of the International Health Medical Education Consortium. He is also board certified in sleep Medicine and is able to assist patients with sleep complaints such as sleep apnea, insomnia and shift work sleep disorder. In his spare time, Ian enjoys hiking, fishing, bicycling, and soccer. He is married with 2 children.

Amy K. Easterling, DO

Dr. Easterling joined SAMC in 2009 after completing her residency at the old Brackenridge Hospital. She graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 2006. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and enjoys taking care of patients of all ages.  Her interests include travel and anything to do with her alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin.

 

Todd A. Canon, MD

Dr. Canon  joined SAMC in 2010.   A native Texan, he relocated to Austin after working in Portland, Oregon for nine years. He completed his residency at Oregon Health and Science University Family Medicine in 2001. He received his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 1998 and his Bachelors Degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. In his free time Dr. Canon enjoys running, bicycling, cooking, vegetable gardening and volunteering with the Human Rights Campaign.

Donovan (DeeDee) D. Runyan, MD

Known to family, friends, and patients as “Dee Dee”, Dr. Runyan graduated from University of Texas at Austin, went on to graduate Magna cum Laude from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and then obtained her Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2002. She joined SAMC in 2005 and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, hanging out with her puppy and college football season. She is training hard for her first triathlon.

Celia Servin, MD

Dr. Servin is a born and raised Texan who joined SAMC October of 2015. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baylor University in 2007. She then went on to graduate from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2011. During her time in medical school, she had the opportunity to complete her clinicals here in Austin at Brackenridge hospital. She then graduated from the Waco Family Medicine Residency program in 2014. From 2014-2015, while helping support her younger brother through his last year of college, Dr. Servin practiced as a family physician at Elm Avenue Community Clinic. Her professional interests are international medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, and outpatient procedures. Dr. Servin is fluent in Spanish. Outside from work, she enjoys traveling, running, playing with her dog Abigail and wine tasting. Although originally from Houston, Dr. Servin is very excited to be back in the Austin area and hopes to stay here for many years to come.

Michael Rie, MD

Dr. Rie joined SAMC in January, 2013. He trained at UMC Brackenridge and Dell Children’s Hospital, and has practiced medicine in Austin since 2006. He has doctorates from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and The George Washington University National Law Center. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine. As a devoted husband and father, Dr. Rie enjoys spending time with his family. His other interests include sports medicine, law, baseball, mountain biking, and mystery novels.

 

Chad Babcock, MD

Chad Babcock was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas and raised in Denton, Texas. He attended the Texas Academy of Math and Science as well as UT Dallas, receiving a BS in Biology before earning his MD at UT Southwestern Medical School. He trained in Family Medicine at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and has resided in Austin since 2008. In that time, he has focused primarily on Urgent Care, but has also participated in biology therapy research with Austin based X-Biotech. He has been Medical Director with Austin’s Paragon Infusion Center since 2011 and provides Clinical coverage to St. David’s Surgical Hospital ER as well as the Travis County Correctional Facilities on a part-time basis.

 

 

Seth Miller, MD

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Seth Miller to South Austin Medical Clinic as of October 17, 2022!  Dr. Miller graduated with honors from University Of Texas Medical School At San Antonio in 2001 and has 21 years of diverse experiences including Family Medicine!
